What is the purpose of risk assessment?

A
  • develop or modify treatment plan
  • use patients own risk factors to educate patient
  • educate about individual oral health problems
  • provide factual information
  • relate oral health findings to behavorial habits
  • educate about behavioral modification methods.

Q

What are the description of risk factors?

A
  • Influence ones susceptibilty to disease
  • number and type modify onset, degree and severity of the disease
  • exposure to risk factor must occur prior to disease onset
  • directly related to disease occurrence

Q

How are risk factors identified?

A
  • longitudinal and interventional study associations.

Q

What are some risk indicators and markers?

A

indicators: exposures, behaviors, lifestyes, genes and or conditions that are associated with increased risk for the dosease but evidence does not support conclusively the association, probable risk factors.

Markers: predicators for disease occurrence

Identification: based on observations in cross sectional and case controlled studies.
