A
Run down, in need of modernising as well as housing developments to replace the war damage.

A
Pre war slums were cleared and new towns built such as Kirby in Merseyside.

What happened to mens weekly wages? What did this lead to?
A
In 1952 they rose from £8.30 and 10 years later rose to £15.35. People could buy more with their money which lead to economic inflation.

What happened to homeownership?
A
It increased, helped by the easy access to cheap mortgages. but people living in council houses and rented accommodation still outnumbered private homeownership.
