Q

The brown shirts

A

Brownshirts (SS)

The brown shirts were a group of people who were employed by the Nazi party to suppress political opponents by inflicting violence on those who opposed fascism publicly.

The brown shirts caused havoc on the streets which Hitler promised to clean up. The havoc conveniently went away after the election.

On June 30, 1934 the Night of the Long Knives erupted in a bloody purge among the Brownshirts ranks, in which Röhm (Brownshirts leader) and all senior Brownshirts, either deemed too socialist or not loyal enough for the new Nazi Party, were arrested by the German military (SS) and eventually executed.
