What is Fascism?
A far-right, authoritarian political ideology that is characterised by a strong leader, a centralised autocracy, militarism, suppression of opposition, racism, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the state and a strong economy and society.
What is Communism?
Communism is a far-left, sociopolitical ideology which is characterised by a strong leader, no class system where all are treated as equals, a centralised autocracy, suppression of opposition and where citizens work for the good of the state.
Was WW2 a political/ideological war?
The war was not seen as a political/ideological war. It was more seen as stopping the Nazis not Fascism.
What countries were Fascist during WW2?
Italy, Germany and Japan.
Led by Benito Mussolini, Hitler and Hirohito.
Why were the 1920’s referred to as the Roaring 20’s?
Because the 1920’s featured economic prosperity, carefree living, and a significant increase in new technology; First feature film, Television, the Ford Car.
What Problems existed in the 1920’s?
Significant racism in Southern USA, alcohol prohibitions caused many crime syndicates to be formed for smuggling, which still exist today; Most Mafia families.
What was the direct cause of the Great Depression?
The New York Stock Exchange Collapse in 1929.
What are the indirect causes of the Great Depression?
Significant amount of US citizens were purchasing high expense items using loans which they couldn’t pay back which resulted in a collapse of the market.
Economic effects of the Great Depression on Australia.
Unemployment reached 30% in the 30s.
Australia was one of the countries hit hardest because of the amount of interest they owed to overseas lenders.
The Melbourne agreement was adopted. Involving cutting costs and paying back the interest they owed.
Australia cut government wages, salaries and removed pensions, raised taxes to increase revenue and set up a welfare system.
Social effects of the Great Depression on Australia.
Many families lost their homes and had to live in shantytowns.
At one stage in Melbourne almost 10% of children suffered from malnutrition.
Workers suffered the Greatest in Australia.
