What is the Gillick or Fraser competence
Children under the age of 16 will be competent if they have sufficient understanding and intelligence to enable them to understand what is proposed
What is the best practice for us when treating a child under the age of 16
Best practice is to involve the parent
Can we restrain a child in the UK if they are uncooperative?
There can be no justification for intimidation or, other than in the most exceptional circumstances, for the use of physical restraint in dealing with a difficult patient. (GDC GUIDELINES)
What should you as a dentist do if a child is uncontrollable (according to the GDC)
The dentist should consider ceasing treatment, making an appropriate explanation to the parent of representative and arranging necessary future treatment for the child rather than continuing if the child is uncontrollable
