what is Rickets ?
A
Osteopenia - loss of bone density. Osteomalacia in children.

What causes Rickets ?
A
Lack of vitamin D or the metabolism of it.

What are the XRAY appearances of Rickets ?
A
Bowing deformity.
Metaphyseal splaying- widening of the metaphyseal ends.
Cupped/ frayed metaphysis.
Osteopenia.
(Demineralised epiphysis.)

Why do the metaphyseal ends appear cupped/frayed ?
A
Poorly calcified bone formation.

What could two differential for splaying of metaphyseal ends be ?
A
Lead poisoning and Fibrous dysplasia.
