Acquitted himself in front of the thousands of insurgents, assuring them that he heard their complaints and that he would grant charters of freedom and pardon for their revolt.

Within a fortnight Richard witnessed the executions of a number of rebels and had formally revoked his pardons, presumably on the recommendation of his councillors.
