Ribeira Sacra - Bodega Regoa Flashcards
Bodega Regoa Bio
Located along the mighty Sil River in Ribiera Sacra, the 11 hectares of vines belonging to Dr. Pietro cling tightly to the steep (80%) inclines of sandy and slate soils. Here many of the vines are Mencia, with some Alvarello, Caiño and Sousón - approximately 30% are over 50 years old, the remaining around 22 years old. Dr. Pietro’s philosophy is minimal and raw, forgoing irrigation and fertilizers so that the grapes are made to struggle as they would in the wild, dependent upon the whims of Mother Nature and producing wines of depth and breadth like no other.
2011: Ribeira Sacra, Mencia
From the Santa Martiño-Amandi vineyard in Sober where the slopes are up to 80% inclination, with soils of slate and sand; the vineyard receives no irrigation and no fertilizers whatsoever in order to preserve the habitat. Maceration and fermentation - with indigenous yeasts takes place over the course of 25 days (with 2-3 daily pump overs) and is then aged for seven months in Allier wooden trunk-conical casks. No filtration or clarification. Alc: 14.5%
