Rheumatoid arthritis (mainly)

What malignancy are patients with Sjogren more likely to develop?
Lymphoid
What is the demographic for Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR)?
> 60 years old
Female
What are the signs of Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR)?
Morning stiffness in the shoulders and hips
Being unable to move in bed or get up in the mornings
Acute onset <1 month
General systemic symptoms
What results are seen on the test are done for PMR?
Raised ESR >40
Normal creatine kinase and EMG (Muscle stimulation)
What is the treatment for PMR?
Prednisolone
Rapid recovery (if not think a different condition)
What do ~50% of patients with PMR also develop?
Temporal arteritis/Giant Cell arteritis
What is GCA?
Vasculitis that affects medium-larger blood vessels
What are the symptoms of GCA?
Headache
Jaw Claudication
Changes in vision/vision loss
Tender temporal artery
What test results indicate GCA?
Elevated ESR
Elevated CRP
Skip lesions in temporal biopsy
Normal creatine kinase and EMG
What is the treatment for GCA?
With no vision loss-prednisolone
with vision loss IV methylprednisolone
