Pathophysiology of RF
A
Following a post- strep ( GBS ) throat infection. 2-4 weeks later symptoms arise.
Gbs infection- body’s immune system responds - creates wbc and immune response to clear pathogen- infection clears. However the antigens present are similar to that of the cardiac , neuronal , dermal and subcutaneous tissue hence it’s mistaken and attacks those tissues producing the relevant symptoms
