Nutrition And Anthropometry Tut: Dr Ghuam Flashcards
Different patterns of growth on chart
Catch-up growth - usually after illness or loss of weight. It can cross a z score upward. A sharp spike
Losing weight is the curve moving downward
Not growing well or gaining weight is the plateau of the curve
Satisfactory weight gain follows the growth curve shape
Describe Abnormal growth pattern and poor weight gain on the growth charts
Abnormal growth pattern will not follow the typical shape of the curve on the RTHC
Poor weight gain will be a straight line horizontally
Incline indicates satisfactory weight gain
Sharp incline is catch-up growth usually after birth or illness
Describe Loss of weight vs failure to regain weight on growth chart
Loss of weight will be a downward decline
Failure to regain weight remains below or on the point of initial declination
Frankfurth plane
Is the imaginary line from the inner eye to outer eye to the external auditory meatus such that the head is in line when taking the height
Crossing a z-score line means
Crossing above usually means satisfactory weight gain after illness or catch-up growth
Crossing below is a sign of concern and maybe due to the child becoming I’ll or having an underlying chronic illness
