What are the two geological zones of the Rheingau?
The Mainz Basin - Upper area around Hochheim, Wicker and Flörsheim which consists of predominantly sedimentary marls, gravels, sands loans and clay cover by loess
The lower Rheingau belongs to the Rhineland Slate Mountains and consists of medium to deep layers of Devonian sandstone, quartzite and shale
What is the Charta?
Organization begun in 1984 to promote dry wines in the Rheingau. Led to the formation of the Erstes Gewächs category in 1999.
