Who is most at risk for Reye Syndrome (pts recovering from what and most likely have taken what drug)?
A
Children that have been sick with a virus such as the flu or chickenpox and have taken aspirin for treatment of s/s are most at risk for Reye Syndrome.
Reye Syndrome presents as toxic encephalopathy. s/s include continued fever with virus present, impaired LOC, increased ammonia levels (affects liver functioning), and increased ICP.

How is Reye Syndrome monitored for and treated?
A
Treatment for Reye Syndrome is supportive. However, a provider and/or nurse would want to monitor LFTs, LOC/ICP, maintain seizure precautions, and obtain CT scan (per MD).
