DAVIES, GURR
State Centered Theory
1-international trigger 2-peasants have to have a degree of solidarity and autonomy 3-Urban elite 4-weak state SKOCPOL
Misery breeds revolt
when people are unhappy, they tend to revolt, and revolution happens.
Vanguard “foco” theory
a leader is the geographical center of revolution
Russian Revolution
State Centered Theory
1-internatinoal trigger-lost the Japanese-Russo War
2-Urban Elite
3-weak state= gov couldn’t repress the peasants
4-peasents-released from the feudal system
Nicaragua
State Centered Theory
1-peasants-when the Somoza Regime was corrupted, they mobilized against it
2-Urban Elite
3-International Trigger-the US withdrew their support from the country (financial)
4-weak state-when the US left, the Somoza wasn’t able to hold off the sandinistas
Limitations of the Relative Deprivation Theory
there is no exact point/level of “deprivation” for revolutions to start at
Limitations to Misery Breeds Revolt Theory
there is no proof for this theory
There are always alternate explanations besides “misery” to explain a revolution
there is always poverty-we should be in a constant revolt
Limitation to Vanguard “foco” theory
Leaders are only catalysts to revolution
implies that we are always in the right conditions for revolution and we just need a leader to come in
Limitations to State Centered Theory
You need all the things for it to work
