the more Higher the civic culture, the more Democracy was found in each country
Limitations of Civic Culture
- correlation is not causation: high levels of Civic Culture doesn’t guarantee Democracy
- it’s hard to measure Civic Culture -surveys give flawed information
- Culture can change
- there are other explanations for Democracy that are better
Authoritarian Personality
Certain cultures have an authoritarian personality as part of their family unit, so they can accept leaders who are authoritarian
ex: germany had aloof father figures in their culture, so they saw Hitler as a father figure and accepted Fascism
Mass Society Theories
DURKEIM, AENDT, KORNHAUSER
when industrialization/urbanization, people move away from their homes and set cultures
when they don’t have relationships set, they are able to be manipulated
Diaperology
when babies are swaddled really tightly, they can’t move, and it makes them passive as adults. also people are more prone to exploding when constraints are removed Russia
1-traditional culture (=authoritarianism)
having strict norms/traditions can make it harder to adapt to new things, so countries would not want to switch to democracy
Fascism

1-authoritarian personality
2-Mass Society Theory (DURKHEIM, ARENDT, KORNHAUSER)
