10
Q

Explanation of anticyclone

A

Cool air sinks and as it does has a higher water capacity so sucks up all the clouds from the atmosphere, resulting in clear, dry weather

Q

Explanation of depression

A

Warm air rises and as it does, rapidly loses it’s water capacity and therefore clouds are formed, resulting in rain

Q

Biosphere reserve

A

Like a national park but more human activity can take place, the further you go from the centre

Eg. Unspoiled centre –> hunting and gathering –> settlements –> unprotected forest

Q

What are the features of the upper stage of a river

A

Water fall

V-shaped valley

Interlocking spur

Fast flowing

17
Q

Main processes at the upper stage of a river

A

High Erosion

NO DEPOSITION

18
Q

What are the features of the middle stage of a river

A

Meanders

Ox bow lakes

River speed slowing down

19
Q

Processes at the middle stage of a river

A

Deposition

Erosion

River speed slowing down

20
Q

Give features of a lower stage of a river

A

U shaped valley

Flood plane

Flat valley floor

Estuary

Delta

21
Q

Main processes in the lower stage

A

Deposition

Slow moving river

22
Q

What happens at the inside bend of a meander

A

Deposition of sediment

Travels more slowly on the outside than the outside

23
Q

How is an oxbow lake formed?

A

The rivers meander gets cut off from the rest of the river

The deposition from the river makes the oxbow lake separate from the rest of the river
