Review: Symp and PS, CN's Flashcards
1
Q
olfactory nerve
A
- SVA= smell
- CN I, passes through cribiform plate.
- lesion can result from trauma to frontal portion of skull, or tumors of frontal lobe
- will cause anosmia/hyponosmia
2
Q
Components of optic n?
A
- SSA = for vision
- optin n. is completely invested in all layers of meninges, it is composed of axons of ganglion cells (third order neurons)
- ONLY n. completely invested in meninges
3
Q
Testing for CN II?
A
visual acuity, visual fields, pupillary light reflex
4
Q
pathologies of CN II?
A
- the first nerve to be affected by increased intracranial pressure: central retinal v. can be compressed and occluded
- demyleniation of optic n: CN II is susceptible to CNS demyelination pathologies, i.e. MS.
- ## Optic Neuritis: inflammation of optic n can be caused by MS, toxic substances, infections, diabetes.
5
Q
Occulomotor n.
A
- GSE- component to eye mm. (levator palpebrae and 4/6 of extraocc. eye mm.)
- GVE-P PS to ciliary mm. and sphincter pupillae m.
- nuclei are located in mesencephalon: Edinger-Wesphal nucleus
