Q

What are the 4 parts of sport ethics about injured players according to anderson?

A
  1. An athlete makes sacrifices for the game. The athlete holds the game above all else and subordinates all other interests
  2. An athlete strives for distinction, aiming to improve and come closer to the goal of perfection
  3. An athlete accepts the risks and plays through the pain, not giving in to such problems as pain or fear. This is an acceptance by athletes of the physical risks the sport may pose to his/her health. To face challenges as such is a sign of moral/physical bravery
  4. An athlete accepts no limits in the pursuit of possibilities. “Real athletes” believe that sport is a sphere of life which anything is possible.

Q

What did Denison and Avner have to say about ethical coaching?

A

Coaches can be committed to their style of coaching which leads them to have a fixed view of how they represent and solve problems. The authors suggest the issue is not about fixing the problem but how to properly represent it.
Denison/Avner say that “problem-setting” must occur, where the coach looks at all aspects affecting the problem and how it is all perceived. Essentially take a step back and evaluate the problem from a sociological point of view before automatically trying to fix the problem from how you see it immediately.
