Review PH Scale Flashcards
What is a Heterogeneous mixture
A heterogenous shows the different part in a mixture
What is a homogenous mixture?
A homogeneous mixture is you can’t see the different parts and is technically a solution
What is a solute?
A solute is a substance that dissolves
What is a solvent?
A solvent is a substance that dissolves the solute
What is a acid?
Acids contain hydrogen ions (+), react to metals to produce hydrogen gas, and could burn or irritate your skin (taste sour)
What is a base?
A base feels slippery, taste bitter, contains hydroxyl ions (-), and could irritate or burn your skin
What is neutral?
Neutral is a substance that is neither an acid or a base is knowing as neutral substance (water is neutral substance)
What are three ways to separate mixtures?
Evaporate,strain,magnet(vaporization)
What are three rates that affect the rates of how a substance dissolves?
Increase surface area, increase friction(stir faster), increase temperature of water
What is a element?
Element is a simple substance that cannot be broken down
What is a compound?
A compound is a substance made up of 2 or more elements chemically combined to form a new substance with unique properties
What is a substance?
Matter that has the same composition and properties throughout
What is a mixture?
A mixture is two or more substance that have been mixed up together (physically) not chemically combined
What is a solution?
A solution is a homogeneous mixture where one substance dissolves into another substance
What is a chemical formula?
A chemical formula is a short way of writing the name of the compound (H2O=2H+O)
