  1. Transretinoic acid
  2. mild-moderate acne; sundamage
  3. Topical. binds all RARs; increases cell turnover and decreases cohesiveness b/w follicular epithelial cells
  4. red/crusted + hyper/hypo pigmentation

+ No pregnancy or lactation use

Adapalene (4: compound, indication, route-MOA, adverse rxn) + limitations

  1. retinoid
  2. acne
  3. Topical. Selective for RARbeta; affects differentiation and keratinization and inflammatory processes
  4. red scaly itchy skin

  1. 13-cis-RA
  2. severe recalcitrant acne
  3. Oral. Binds all RARs. Inhibit sebum and causes comedolysis
  4. photosensitivity, dry skin, corneal tox, hyperostosis and ligament calcification long term

+ TERATOGEN (NEED BC)

  3. dries skin
  4. photosensitivity + liver, msk, mucocutaneous vit a rxn; rarely: ICH and capillary leak syndrome
