Resultant forces and friction Flashcards
1
Q
What is resultant force?
A
The resultant force on an object is: the force left over after equal and opposite forces have cancelled out
2
Q
How to find resultant forces
A
When several forces act on a body, the resultant force on the body can be found by adding together forces that act in the same direction and subtracting forces which act in the opposite direction
3
Q
What is friction?
A
A force between two surfaces which impedes motion and results in heating
4
Q
What are the 2 types of friction?
A
Static: Between 2 surfaces
Dynamic: Air resistance (drag)
5
Q
Uses for friction
A
Walking, breaking, heating
6
Q
Friction results in _______
A
Energy loss due to transfer of heat
