Resultant force Flashcards
What is the resultant force?
A resultant force is the overall force that acts on the object
What happens if you push an object down into the water, such as a beach ball in the sea
The volume of the ball that is under water increases, so the upthrust increases and becomes greater than the weight. The forces are not balanced forces, so if you release the ball it moves back up to its original position.
What is an upthrust force?
The upward force that the water exerts on the object.
What happens if the upthrust is less than the weight of the object?
The object will sink
why must the resultant force on an object equal zero?
because there are other forces acting on the object, because it is floating and not accelerating, so the resultant force on the object must equal zero.
