what is ant’s law?
A
describes the ratio of a crown to its root
the total periodontal membrane area of the abutment teeth should be equal to or greater than the area of the teeth being replaced

what is a splint and what is it used for?
A
an appliance fitted to either maxillary or mandibular teeth for diagnostic or treatment needs including:
- stabilisation of jaw position
- testing increases in OVD
- managing bruxism
- managing TMD

how are splints used to test increases in OVD?
A
usually a hard splint is used as a training aid to get the patient used to this new OVD
patient wears this splint for 4-6 weeks
after this, it can be confirmed if the patient’s jaws will accept this new OVD
