Responsibility Flashcards
M B: “Y t e h t l a e e, a i w w a m u t l b i a h - c a a t n.”
“You’d think everybody had to look after everybody else, as if we were all mixed up together like bees in a hive.”
Mr Birling doesn’t believe in the socialist views the Inspector will later put across. He used the imagery of a hive to represent the kind of society Priestly dreamed of. He is cut off shortly after by the Inspector.
I G: “P m, M B, h r a w a p.”
Inspector Goole: “Public men, Me Birling, have responsibilities as well as privileges.”
The Inspector comments on the fact that the rich should be using their power to look after everyone else rather than just indulge themselves in the luxuries they are handed.
E: “y n t k o f a c c g t w h i t.”
Eric: “you’re not the kind of father a chap could go to when he’s in trouble.”
Priestly addresses the responsibilities within a family unit.
I G: “t l, t h a f, t s, a c o h, a i w o l.”
Inspector Goole: “their lives, their hopes and fears, their suffering, and chance of happiness, all intertwined with our lives.”
The Inspector drives home that we are all responsible for each other in his final speech.
