What do you need from you employer to be successful in your job?
Code of practice, set of standards, knowledge of role and how to keep self and service user safe.
What is a code of practice?
The codes of practice are not laws but may have been developed as a result of a law. Policies inform the workers how to approach certain tasks. Procedures are actions that have to be followed in certain situations.
Provide an example of a code of practice?
Demonstrate respect for diversity and promote equality. Treat people as individuals and respect their dignity. Maintain an individual’s right to be involved in decisions about their care.
Why is a code of practice important to the service user and service provider?
A healthcare practitioner’s aim is to improve the quality of life for their client. To do this they need to keep a professional relationship to protect the client and the care worker from any misunderstandings.
What are National Occupational Standards?
Statements of performance individuals must achieve when carrying out functions in the workplace.
Provide an example of a standard?
Support children’s learning through play. Implement interventions during labour and birth. Provide leadership to other youth workers and volunteers.
Why is a standard important to the service user and service provider?
They are valuable tools to help individuals, organisations and training providers improve performance, define roles at work, recruit staff, supervise staff and carry out appraisals.
What is CPD?
Continuing Professional Development is an activity that contributes to a worker’s learning and development.
Provide an example of a CPD?

Why is CPD important to the service user and service provider?
It allows individuals to continually up skill, regardless of their age, job or level of knowledge.
What is safeguarding?
Protecting a person’s right to work in safety, free from abuse and neglect.
How are staff helped to maintain safeguarding?
Employer provides a complaints procedure, information on how to report abuse or neglect, a whistle blowing policy, access to trade union representatives and professional associations and all procedures to carry out job in line with regulatory body specifications.
Why is safeguarding important to the service user and service provider?
To feel safe and protected at work and be able to protect service users.
