Responsibilities Flashcards
Who is generally responsible for the safety of the crane operation once the load is lifted clear of the ground
The operator
What are five responsibilities of a rigger ?
Must be experienced and capable
They must be capable of establishing weights
They must be capable of judging distances heights and clearances
They must be capable of selecting appropriate lifting gear and rigging
They must be capable of rigging the load safety
What are five duties of maintenance personnel
All components must be brought to a zero state
Hydraulic pressure must be relived before disconnecting any hydraulic components
The equipment must be locked out
The crane shall be placed in an area where it will not constitute a hazard, if it cannot be moved personal in danger must be removed from area
All controls must be set to neutral when work is done
What are the four available methods of determine the weights of your loads
Use the loads stamped weight
Find the technical document (drawings, waybills, web)
Use a load weighing device
You can estimate using accepted industry formulas
Should you attempt a test lift without knowing the weight
No big mistake
How could you determine if the loads centre of gravity is stable or unstable
It is stable if the hook is directly over the cofg
It is stable if the cofg is below the attachment points on the load
Are boom angle indicators required and can you rely on them
They are you required but must not be relied on
Up to how many degrees of reading error is found in boom angle indicators
2
If manufactures instructions and laws contradict each other which must you follow
The laws
Barriers must be used in place of ropes or tape in what situation
If the crane is closer than 2 feet to any obstructions
What is impact loading
A sudden lift or stop of a load, can more than double the effective weight
Where is a crane boom strongest
In a near vertical lift
