Luther forwarded it to Archbishop Albert of Mainz who forwarded it to Rome as heresy (he sold many indulgences, so was opposed to Luther).

His plan backfired as the Augustinian leader was Joann on Staupitz, Luther’s Mentor. He called a meeting in Heidelburg in 1518 and invited Luther to make a presentation. This helped him gain support and confidence.

For one week they debated on free will and finally Luther was given safe conduct.
The next debate was about papacy and Luther was compared to Jan Hus (Heretic burnt alive). Luther agreed and unintentionally deemed himself a heretic.
