Define Blunt trauma
When trauma occurs but does not penetrate the skin eg seat belt
Define penetrating trauma
When an injury occurs that penetrates through the skin, eg stabbing
Define pneumothorax
Is either partial or entire collapse of the lung, where air is now in the plural cavity.
define heamothroax
Blood in the pleural space
Define tension pneumothorax
wherelarge air collection in the pleural speace comprimises respiration and cardiac function
Define subcutaneous emphysema
Air trapped under the skin, mainly in upper lobe of lung from gravity. Feel like Rice Bubble or bubble wrap under skin.
Define Haemoptysis
Discharge of blood from the mouth from coughing or mucus NOT VOMIT
Define Flail chest
2 or more Broken ribs , lung no longer has a cavity and exceeds out the chest on expiration
What is a heimlinch valve/Flutter valve
What assessments should be done?
- Primary assessment (ABCDE)
- Secondary Assessment (AMPLE)
