Respiratory Therapy Equipment Flashcards
1
Q
Normal PaO2
A
80-100 mmHg
2
Q
PaO2 80 mmHg
A
95% SaO2
3
Q
PaO2 50 mmHg
A
80% SaO2
4
Q
Anemia
A
For any given saturation the PaO2 is lower then normal
5
Q
Indications for long term O2 therapy
A
PaO2 <88%
6
Q
Nasal Cannula
A
Provides up to 44% oxygen (6L).
Low flow system in which the tidal volume mixes with ambient gas (room air).
Increasing the O2 flow rate by 1L/min equates to an increase of about 4% FIO2
1L/min: 21-24%
2L/min: 25-28%
7
Q
Simple Face Mask
A
40-60% oxygen can be supplied through the oxygen port at 5-10L/min
Minimum flow of 5 L/min needed
8
Q
Venturi Mask
A
Accurately control the proportions of inspired oxygen.
Used for patient who retain carbon dioxide and patients who have moderate to severe hypoxemia
