Respiratory System Flashcards
1
Q
Oxygen and Carbon dioxide gas exchange steps
A
1) Ventilation: Moves oxygen to and from exchange surfaces
2) External respiration: Area for gas exchange
3) Transport: Moves gases into and out of body
4) Internal respiration: Exchange of gases between blood and tissues
2
Q
Conducting portion location
A
Nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, terminal bronchioles
3
Q
Respiratory portion location
A
Respiratory bronchioles and alveoli
4
Q
Conducting tract function
A
Filters by removing particles and pathogen’s before it reaches the alveoli and humidifies air
5
Q
Respiratory defense system
A
- Nasal cavity filters particles greater than 10 µm
- goblet cells produce mucus that trap small debris and micro organisms
- cilia sweep them out
- smaller particles are trapped in mucus covering bronchioles or in alveolar fluids
