respiratory system Flashcards
Know the route that air travels to reach the lungs
Nose –> pharynx –> larynx –> trachea –> lungs –> bronchci
Inhalation:
- Active phase
- Diaphragm and rib muscle contract causing thoracic cavity to expand
- Low pressure
- Lungs inflate
Exhalation
- Interccostals relax, ribcage lowers
- Diaphrtagm relaxes and rises back up
- Thoracic volume decreases
- Pressure
tidal volume
normall
vital capacity
maximum volume
residal volume
residual
external respiration
between alveoli and capillaries
internal respiration
exchange of gases between capillaries and tissue fluid
Pneumonia
- Bacteria,viruses
- Bronchi/alveoli fill with thick fluid
- Antibiotics
asma
- WHEEZING
- Reduced/irritated airways
- inhalers
- breathless
Emphysema
- Alveoli is damaged
- Smoking
Common cold
- Virus
- LIQUIDS, SOUP, NO ANTIBIOTICS
Bronchitis
- Smokers cough
- airways inflamed, filled with mocus
- cough medicine, therapy, stop smoking
in which organ is the alveoli found
lungs
funnel shape passageway that connects nasal and oral cavities to the larynx
pharynx
the respiratory system…
provides body with oxygen
upper respiratory tract
- nasal cavity
- pharynx
- larynx
air sacs
alveoli
nose
filters
trachea
flexible tube that connects larynx with bronchi
lungs
soft, contains the bronchial tree
bronchi
divides into 2, one to each lung, ends with alveoli
