What is the purpose of the Respiratory System?
The purpose is to inhale oxygen to the lungs, which will diffuse into the blood and be carried to all cells of the body.
Carbon dioxide, which is produced in the cells by respiration, will diffuse from the cell into the blood, carried back to the lungs, where it is exhaled out.
Trachea?
Is a sheet of muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. In contacts and flattens as you breath in and arches up as you breath out.
Bronchi?
A cluster of sacs in which oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged.
Alveoli?
Thin-walled tube reinforced with rings of cartilage. You can feel these rings as ridges on the front of your throat.
Diaphragram?
One of these carries air into each lung.
