Osmosis And Diffusion Flashcards
What is diffusion?
It’s where oxygen, carbon dioxide and water move from a region of high concentration to a region of lower concentration.
What is Osmosis?
It’s where water moves to dilute the concentrations of larger chemicals and nutrients.
Specialised cells in a Plant
Chloroplast
Cell
Make the leaf green

Root hair
Root
Increasing absorption of water
Specialised cells in a Plant
Xylem
Stem
Carry water through the roots to the stem
Water moves up from the roots of the plant, through its stem and to its leaves.
Specialised cells in a Plant
Phloem
Stem
Carries sugar to the other parts of the plants
Phloem tubes travel through the stem and are made up of living cells called sieve tubes and companion cells.

Stomates
Leaf
Gives out oxygen and water
These are the many openings on the lower leaf surface.

Guard Cells
Leaf
Make the stomate open and close
Transpiration
Is essentially evaporation of water from plants.
