Respiratory System Flashcards
What are the major components of the respiratory system?
1) Mouth/ Nose:
1) Nose filters air with nasal hairs
2) nose warms and moistens air
2) Pharynx
1) Opening where air enters the trachea
3) Larynx
1) where the vocal cords are housed
4) Trachea
1) tube which brings air to the bronchi
2) lined with mucus and hairs to trap dust sand bacteria
5) Bronchi
1) two tubes which carry the air into the lungs
6) Lungs
1) organs which house the alveoli
7) Alveoli
1) Clusters of tiny thin wall sacs where gas exchange occurs between the alveoli and the blood
What is the function of the respiratory system?
1) breathe in oxygen and deliver it to the blood and exhale carbon dioxide
How do other body systems relate to the respiratory system?
1) Circulatory System: the oxygen contained the alveoli is transported through the capillaries, which are tiny blood vessels, which in turn transports the now oxygen rich blood throughout the human body
