respiratory system Flashcards
structure of respiratory system
nose, nostrils, mouth, throat, larynx, thrachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, right lung, left lung
nose
lets in oxygen and out carbon dioxide
nostrils
they lead to nasal cavity which is divided into section by the septum
mouth
throat
the tube that starts behind the nose and goes down into the esophagus
larynx
the voice box located at the top of the trachea
trachea
underneath the larynx THE WIND PIPE from the larynx to the bronchi
bronchi
are two main tubes lead from trachea into the lungs
bronchioles
are the smaller tubes that branch of the bronchi and lead into your alveoli
alveoli
little sacks that are located at the end of those bronchioles primarily where GAS EXCHANGE takes place
right lung
has three sections
left lung
has two sections because that is wher the heart sits in other to make room for the heart it has removed one section
function of the respiratory system
oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange and maintains pH of the blood
when you breathn in
the diaphragm contracts and moves downwards
breath in
increases the volume within your thoracic cavity and and decreases the pressure that is inside of it
oxygen
pases from the alveoli to the blood
breath out
the diagphram relaxes it moves back upwards this decreases the volume in your thoracic cavity and increases the pressure inside of it
alveoli release
carbon dioxide into the lungs which is called ventaltion
diseases
pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma
factors that effect the respiratory system
cigarattes, pollution and dust allagies and inflammation
