Respiratory System Flashcards
____ is the exchange of gases between
the atmosphere, blood, and cells
Respiration
What are the combination of 3 processes required for respiration to occur
➢ Ventilation (breathing)
➢ External (pulmonary) respiration
➢ Internal (tissue) respiration
What human body system assists the respiratory system by transporting gases
cardiovascular system
It is defined as the sum total of the physical and chemical processes in the body by which the oxygen is conveyed to tissues and cells as well as the oxidation products which is the carbon dioxide and water.
Respiration
these are the structures that is found in the head and neck, consists of the nose, pharynx, and the associated structures.
Upper respiratory system
these are the structures found in the lungs or thoracic cavity, consisting of the larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli.
Lower respiratory system
This zone is responsible for filtering, warming, and moistening the air as it travels to the lungs.
Conducting zone
Structures included to form the air passageways to move in and out of the lungs
nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles.
This zone is where oxygen enters the
blood, and carbon dioxide is removed.
Respiratory zone
the structures involved in the exchange of gases
bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and alveoli
