Respiratory system (pulmonary system)
The system of nose, mouth, throat, lungs , and muscles that brings oxygen into the body and expels carbon dioxide. Purposes are ventilation and oxygenation. O2 is moved into the bloodstream through inhalation and CO2 is picked up by the blood and excreted from the body through exhalation.
Oropharynx
Area directly posterior to the mouth. Air enters the body through the nose and mouth and moves through the oropharynx
Nasopharynx
Area directly posterior to the nose. Air moves through here as well after entering the mouth and nose
Pharynx
The area directly posterior to the mouth and nose. Made up of the oropharynx and nasopharynx

A leaf shaped structure that closes over the glotitis (opening to the trachea) to prevent food and foreign matter from entering the trachea during swallowing

Ring shaped structure that forms the portion of the larynx
