Tiny sacs in the lungs which exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place. The singular form of alveoli is “alveolus”
Breathing
Mechanical process of moving air into and out of the lungs. Also called ventilation.
Bromothymol blue
Chemical indicator that changes from blue to light green to yellow in the presence of increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide in solution.
Cilia
Tiny hairlike extensions of cells that line the respiratory tract. Move is waves to eliminate germs in body.
Intercostal muscles
Muscles that present within the rib cage

The major muscle of respiration
