Q

Diaphragm

A

Contracts and Relaxes - helps expand and contract lungs for air to enter (inhalation) and air to leave (exhalation), breathing in and out.

Q

Describe External and Internal Respiration

A
  • External Respiration is transfer of gases from the external environment through to the lungs and into the bloodstream. Includes inhalation, transfer of gases in alveoli and exhalation.
  • Internal Respiration is gas exchange (O2 and CO2) that occurs between the blood, cells and tissue.
