Function of the Heart
A
- Receives deoxygenated blood from body and pumps to lungs for oxygenation.
- Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body via the Aorta.

Location of the Heart
A
- Slightly to the left of the Thoracic Cavity
- Anterior to the vertebral column, posterior to the sternum.

What is Sino-Atrial Node
A
Creates the ‘impulse’, called the ‘pacemaker’ and contracts atrium wall (muscle)

Describe Systemic Circulation
A
Carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body cells and return deoxygenated blood to the heart.

Describe Pulmonary Circulation
A
Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to lungs and returns oxygenated blood

Describe Coronary Circulation
A
- Supplies oxygenated blood to the heart muscle (myocardium)
- Provides drainage from the tissues of the heart.

Describe Portal Circulation
A
- To deliver deoxygenated blood to the liver to be detoxified before it returns to the heart.
- Carries blood from the stomach, intestines, pancreas and spleen to the liver.
