Respiratory Support(Lab) Flashcards
What are some signs of hypoxemia?
pallor, cool, dry skin, dyspnea, tachypnea, tachycardia, chest pain; cyanosis and diaphoresis are late signs
In hypoxemia you have htn followed by? tachy followed by?
hypotension; bradycardia
How much O2 does nasal cannula deliver?
24-44%
When do you humidify nasal cannula ?
greater than 4 L used
What are the flow rates of a high flow nasal cannula? O2 concentration?
15-40 L/min; 60-90%
What is the flow rate of simple face mask? O2 concentration?
5-12 L/min; 30-60%
Whats the difference between rebreather and nonrebreather?
rebreather have two way valves
What should you not do with rebreather and nonrebreather?
humidify
What is the flow rate of both types of rebreathers?
10-15 L
What is the O2 delivery of rebreather? nonrebreather?
35-60%, 60-100%
What is unique about venturi mask?
precise O2 delivery; good for COPD
What is trach mask usually set at?
10 L
What size ETT for men? women?
8-9; 7.5-8
What are some physiologic alterations of being on a ventilator?
decreased warming, filter, moisturizing air, cant speak, vocal cord damage, weak Resp. muscles.
What are some cardiovascular complications of being on a vent?
decreased venous return to heart, left ventricular end-diastolic vol. (preload), CO, hypotension
