How many respiratory points are there on the chest?
7 on each side of the chest
Where is the first respiratory point on the chest?
Apex of the lungs. Above the clavicle either side of the trachea. Top of both superior lobes
Where is the second respiratory point on the chest?
2nd intercostal space. Beside the sternal angle (angle of louis). both upper lobes
Where is the third respiratory point on the chest?
3rd intercostal space. Superior lobes
Where is the fourth respiratory point on the chest?
4th intercostal space. Middle lobe of the right lung, low superior lobe of the left
Where is the fifth respiratory point on the chest?
5th intercostal space. right middle and left upper
Where is the sixth respiratory point on the chest?
6th intercostal space. Midaxillar line. inferior lobes
What sounds should be heard at the first respiratory point?
Bronchial. Loud, relatively high pitch. inspiration shorter than expiratory.
What sounds should be heard at the second respiratory point?
Bronchovesticular. Medium loudness, intermediate pitch. Inspiratory and expiratory sounds equal
What sounds should be heard at the third respiratory point?
Vesticular. Soft, relativelylow pitch. Inspiratory sound longer than expiratory
