respiratory mucosa Flashcards
the nose, trachea, and bronchi are lined with
mucus secreting and ciliated cells in the epithelial lining, mucosa, and submucosa
the submucosa contains
mucous glands
mucosa is a mucous
membrane that lines the conducting zone
mucous is a thick
slimy secretion produced by mucous cells
mucus traps these particles and beating of cilia sweeps them
upward in to the mouth, which can be swallowed or expectorated
thus, protecting the lungs from
bacteria and other harmful particles (homeostasis)
the network of capillaries beneath the
epithelium of the respiratory tract release moisture and heat in to the incoming air and as a result the air is humidified and warmed to body temp
the respiratory mucosa consists of what 2 layers
an epithelial layer
an aerolar layer called the lamina propria
the respiratory membrane lines the
conducting portion of respiratory system
the lamina propria supprts the
respiratory epithelium
the lamina propria is in the upper respiratory system
trachea, bronchi
contains mucous glands that secrete onto epithelial surface
the lamina propria in the conducting portion of lower respiratory system include the
windpipe (trachea), and within the lungs, the bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli, contains smooth muscle cells that encircle lumen of bronchioles
