- toxic botanical: tropane alkaloids
- Used historically for purely spasmodic asthma
- Deadly nightshade: ornithine and methionine
- Solanacea: relaxation of SNS (antispasmodic to SM) – affects the PNS in small therapeutic doses, the CNS in large
- Anticholinergic to PNS- compete with acetyl choline for receptor sites– inhibits PSNS, stimulates SNS -> dilation of pupils, increase intraocular pressure, reduce secretions

- Affinity for cardiovascular, lungs, eyes, thyroid

- vasodilator, bronchodilator, antitussive, urinary tract antispasmodic
- Specific for asthma, angina, passage of urinary calculi
- Contraindicated in preg
