List signs for resp distress

A

Tachypnoea >25
Nasal Flaring during breathing
Subcostal resection
Intercostal recection

Tracheal tug
Chest hyperinflation
Liver displaced inferiorly
Cyanosis or pallor
Use of accessory muscles (eg causing head bobbing)
Expiratory grunting: caused by closure of epiglottis in order to try to create positive airway during expiration.

Tachycardia
Feeding difficulties

Whats a wheeze?

A

Turbulent whistling sound caused by turbulent air flow.
Lower airway narrowing sign. Usually due to inflammation.

Usually expiratory phase of respiration.
Causes of infant : viral induced wheeze, asthma, bronchiolitis, inhalation of a foreign body and cardiac failire.
