What is repsiratory distress syndrome and what are feautures of it?
Typically when premature children are born, and their lungs are not fully developed they have dificulty breathing.
This is due to inadequate surfactant, stiff lungs causing increased work of breathing and thickened walls lowering gas exchange.
What is CLD?
Chronic lung disease of prematurity. There will be areas of atelectasis, interstital edema, fibrosis, SM hypertrophy.
Is a result of lung immaturity with oxygen toxicity, barotrauma and volutrauma. Pulmonary oedema can occur as well as inflammation and scarring.
What is whooping cough?
Paroxysmal coughing prior to a vaccination. Child appears well between coughing fits. Wheezing?
What are some affects of pneumonia?
A cough, with difficulty breathing and tachypnea. Also indrawing. No wheezing.
What is bronchiolitis?
Bronchiole inflammation, so asthma?
What is bronchiectatsis?
A wet productive cough with crackling sounds heard.
