Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Flashcards
What does the CIRCULATORY SYSTEM consist of?
heart, blood vessels, blood
What are three types of Blood Vessels
Arteries,Capillaries, Veins
What do arteries do?
Carry O2-rich blood away from the heart, to the rest of the body
What are Capillaries?
one-cell thin to easily diffuse O2 and CO2
What do veins do?
Veins carry O2-depleted blood to the heart, away from the rest of the body
Which blood vessels carry O2 rich blood away from the heart and to the body
arteries
Which blood vessals carry O2 depleted blood away from the body and into the heart?
veins
What is blood pressure
the force of blood pushing against your arteries
What is the purpose of heartbeat
Heat beat is caused by heart muscle contracting is what causes blood pressure
What are the parts of the respiratory system
NOSE, MOUTH, THROAT, TRACHEA, LUNGS
What is the purpose of the respiratory system?
Take in O2 for the body, Remove CO2 from the body
Are lungs hollow?
No
What is the main function of the circulatory system
Carries oxygen and nutrients and chemicals to cells. Removes waste products-Carbon dioxide.
Carries white blood cells that help defend the body.
How is the circulatory system involved in cellular respiration?
- Blood carries oxygen to every cell in the body via the blood vessels ( arteries and capillaries).
- The cell takes up the oxygen and uses it for cellular respiration to produce energy.
3, The waste product carbon dioxide is removed and carried back to the lungs by the blood to be released.
How many chambers in the heart?
4
