Respiration System Flashcards
Respiration
The process that releases energy from food.
The equation for respiration is..?
Glucose + Oxygen —> Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy
What are the two types of respiration?
Aerobic Respiration and Anaerobic Respiration
What does Aerobic Respiration need?
Needs oxygen to release energy from food
What does Anaerobic Respiration need to release energy from food?
Nothing, it doesn’t use oxygen to release energy from food
How does Oxygen get to our Cells?
Oxygen is carried by blood to all cells of the body
Give an example of Anaerobic Respiration
Alcohol. Drinks such as beers and wine!
What is the function/ use of the Nose?
Hairs and mucus trap dirt particles and bacteria in the nose. Air is warned and moistened as it passes through ti the nose. Warm and moist air helps oxygen to pass from the lungs into the bloodstream more easily.
What’s the Trachea?
The trachea, or windpipe, carries air to and from the lungs. The trachea is made from cartilage to stop it from collapsing.
What do the Bronchus and Bronchioles do? And what are they?
We have two bronchi. The function of the bronchus is it carries air between the trachea and a lung. Bronchi subdivide many times to form tiny tubes called bronchioles, which carry air to and from air-sacs, or alveoli.
What is the Alveolus?
Each lung contains millions of tiny air-sacs called alveoli. The function of each alveolus is gas exchange.
The Diaphragm!
The diaphragm is a sheet of muscle that forms the base of the chest. The diaphragm causes air to move into or out of the lungs!
