Respiration and Fermentation Flashcards
What is respiration?
The process of food being broken down, through enzyme controlled reactions, to release energy
What is aerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration is when oxygen is present.
What is the equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen, undergo cellular respiration = ATP + Co2 + H2o
What is anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic respiration is when oxygen is NOT present - it is also called fermentation.
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration in plant and yeast cells?
Glucose = ATP + Co2 + Alcohol
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration in animal cells?
Glucose = Lactic acid + ATP
Name 3 commercial uses of yeast cells?
Bread making
Beer making
Wine making
Name the gas which causes bread to rise?
co2
