DNA and Production of Proteins Flashcards
1
Q
Where is DNA stored?
A
The Nucleus
2
Q
DNA carries the instructions to make ____?
A
Proteins
3
Q
What is the structure of DNA called?
What makes up the structure?
A
Double Helix
Phosphate group, deoxyribose sugar, base
4
Q
What are the Complimentary Base Pairings?
A
A, T
G, C
(adenine, thymine, cytosine, guanine)
5
Q
What is transcription?
A
Stage one of protein synthesis
In the nucleus, DNA unravels and the hydrogen bond breaks, allowing the DNA to be transcribed into mRNA - it can now travel to the ribosomes.
6
Q
What is translation?
A
Stage 2 of protein synthesis
mRNA arrives at the ribosomes, the ribosomes match each codon to amino acids to form a chain of amino acids, proteins are then made.
